Getting a Library Card
All JC students are encouraged to get a library card. Library cards are available for free to all registered JC students, JC employees, and Jackson County residents. To get a library card, bring your state-issued photo ID to the Library main desk, where you will fill out a short form.
Your library card is associated with Jackson District Library and can be accepted at any JDL branch. If you already have JDL card, you don't need to get another one - you can already check out books from JC!
Please return items when they are due. You are responsible for all materials checked out with your library card. If you should lose your card, report the loss immediately. Items may be returned to the Library or any JDL branch.
Fines are imposed to ensure prompt return of materials. If you need an item longer, renew it! Users are allowed to continue checking out materials as long as the fine amount stays under $10. If an item is overdue by more than two months, it will be assumed lost and the user will be billed for the replacement cost. If you lose or damage an item while you have it checked out, you may arrange to have it replaced by contacting the Library Director.
Patrons with $25 worth of fines and/or overdue materials are referred to a Collection Agency, and this will impact their credit rating.
The JC Library Fines Policy fully explains the expectations regarding fines.
|Item||Lending Period||Fine||Maximum Fine|
|Books||3 weeks||$0.15 per day||$10.00|
|CDs/DVDs (JC)||3 weeks||$0.50 per day||$10.00|
|CDs/DVDs (JDL)||1 week||$0.50 per day||$10.00|
|Reserves||2 hours||$0.50 per hour||$10.00|
A wide variety of items are available through Atkinson Library with your library card! Most are available for a three week checkout; reserve items, such as course textbooks, may only be used in the library. The JC Library Material Checkout Policy outlines the expectations for users checking out items from the library.

Is your item coming due? Make sure to renew! You can renew your items online by logging into your account in our online catalog. Not near a computer? No problem! Bring your items in to the library or call us at (517) 796-8622.
Items borrowed through MeLCat, a statewide resource sharing program, must be returned by the date listed on the label. They may be renewed once, either through your MyMelCat account, or by contacting the Library at the number above. Items not returned promptly may be assumed lost by the lending library, at which time you may be assessed replacement fees and possibly lose your MelCat borrowing privileges.
Please note that MelCat items borrowed through Jackson College may only be returned to Jackson College. They may not be returned to JDL branches.
